THE MOSES FAMILY

THE MOSES FAMILY BECAME INVOLVED IN RACING IN THE FIFTIES. BUCK MOSES AND HIS YOUNGER BROTHER DUSTY WERE THE FIRST TWO MOSES TO DRIVE RACECARS. BEING ONE OF THE YOUNGER MOSES I CAN ONLY GO BY HEARSAY UNTIL AROUND 1960. BUCK AND DUSTY RACED AROUND AT SUCH TRACKS AS GILFORD BOWL AND NORWOOD SPEED ARENA , MORILS TRACK ON RT 3 IN FRANKLIN . AROUND 1960 THEY RACED IN HUDSON.IN THOSE DAYS WOMEN AND KIDS WERE NEVER ALLOWED IN THE PITS FOR NO REASON SO WE HAD TO WAIT IN THE STANDS AND THE PARKING LOT FOR THE CARS TO BE LOADED AND BEERS TO BE DRANK AND STORIES TO BE TOLD. IF IT WAS A WINNING NIGHT WE GOT HOME LATER. THANK GOD THE OLD CARS WERE BIG SO YOU COULD SLEEP ON THE WAY HOME. IN 1963 MY DAD DUSTY AND OUR FAMILY MOVED TO CALIFORNIA SO MY DAD STOPPED RACING FOR ABOUT TEN YEARS.
BUCK MOSES
RACED AT THE OLD 106 SPEEDWAY IN LOUDON FOR A FEW YEARS. AT THE END OF THE SIXTIES HE WAS RACING AT CLAREMONT IN HIS #01 FORD COUPE AND THAT LITTLE FORD WOULD FLY AND LIKED NOTHING BETTER THAN HAVING CHEVIES FOR DINNER. WE HAD MOVED BACK FROM CALIFORNIA AND BEING A TEENAGER CLAREMONT SPEEDWAY WAS A HAPPENING PLACE TO BE IN 1970. IN THE EARLY SEVENTIES BUCK RACED SUPERMODIFIEDS AT STAR SPEEDWAY IN EPPING. BUCK TAUGHT US YOUNGER BOYS A LOT OF RACING SECRETS WHEN HE RACED SUPERMODIFIEDS.BEING AS SCILLFILL HE WAS IN THE MACHINE SHOP BUCK WAS ONE OF THE MOST VALUABLE ASSETS TO ALL OF THE MOSES WHO RACED.HE WAS ALWAYS WILLING TO SHARE HIS GREAT KNOWLEDGE HE HAD OF CHASSIS AND MOTORS WITH ANY OF US WHO WERE WILLING TO LISTEN AND LEARN. WHEN BUCK DIED IN 2003

DUSTY MOSES

THIS IS A PICTURE OF THE CAR DUSTY DROVE AT HUDSON IN 1960. HE HAD A LOT OF SUCESS IN THIS CAR BUT TOOK OVER DRIVING FOR BUCK IN 61 WHO HAD TO BE SIDELINED FOR A COUPLE SEASONS BECAUSE OF AN EYE OPPERATION. DUSTY HAD A LOT OF SUCSESS IN THE 7X COUPE HE RAN WITH BUCK TOO. DUSTY DROVE AT NORWAY PINES IN 1978 FOR MOST OF THE SEASON IN THE 7X GREMLIN BUT AFTER THE SEASON WAS OVER HE DECIDED AGE WAS GETTING THE BETTER OF HIM SO I HAD TO DO SOME WHEELIN DEALIN TO GET HIM TO LET ME DRIVE.HE SPENT THE NEXT TEN YEARS BUILDING CARS FOR ME AND WE HAD A HELL OF A GO AT IT UNTIL HIS DEATH IN 1988 . THOUGH HE DIED YOUNG HE LEFT A LOT OF KNOWLEDGE JUST AS UNCLE BUCK DID AND RACING WAS NEVER THE SAME AFTER HE WAS GONE.
ROYAL MOSES

I BELIVE ROYAL STARTED IN THE MID SIXTIES AT MORRILS RACETRACK AND THE 106 SPEEDWAY. IN THE LATE SIXTIES HE MADE A NAME FOR HIMSELF AT CLAREMONT IN THE #00 COUPE. ROYAL WENT REAL GOOD IN THE CAR AND WAS A FRONTRUNNER AT CLAREMONT BACK THEN.IN THE SEVENTIES ROYAL QUIT RACING FOR A WHILE UNTIL THE COUPE CLASS STARTED AT NORWAY PINES. ROYAL SHOWED UP WITH BLAKEY HILL AND A BEAUTIFUL #38 SPECIAL COUPE. AND THAT BABY WOULD FLY. ROYAL IS A LOT LIKE BUCK MOSES IN THE MACHINE SHOP AND IS NOTED FOR DOING SOME VERY NICE WORK. ROYAL WAS LIKE FONZIE TO US YOUNGER COUSINS BUT HE ALWAYS HAD COOL HOT CARS AND IF YOU DARED JUMP IN HE WERENT AFRAID TO SHOW YOU . HE WAS THE SAME WAY ON THE RACETRACK. HE WAS A TOUGH ACT TO FOLLOW. THE LITTLE 38 CAR IS RESTORED NOW AND PRETTY AS EVER AND DOES VINTAGE SHOWS. AFTER ROYAL GOT DONE RACING WITH BLAKEY HE BUILT HIS OWN NEW MODIFIED AND IT WAS A SWEET ONE. HE ALSO WENT BACK TO HIS ORIGINAL NUMBER #57 AND RACED SEVERAL MORE YEARS BEFORE SELLING OUT TO FRED FECTO. HE STILL SHOWS UP FROM TIME TO TIME TO WATCH A RACE AND SEE WHATS UP.
DAVID MOSES

DAVID MOSES BOUGHT ROYALS #00 COUPE AND RACED IT A FEW TIMES AT CLAREMONT BEFORE HIS LIFE WAS CUT SHORT BY A TRAGIC CONSTUCTION ACCIDENT AT AGE 19. DAVID WAS THE SON OF BUCK MOSES AND DROVE JUST LIKE HIM. I BELIVE IF WE HADNT LOST HIM HE MIGHT HAVE BEEN THE BEST DRIVER IN THE FAMILY.
JIMMY MOSES
JIMMY WAS ANOTHER ONE OF BUCKS SONS. JIMMY STARTED DRIVING AT BRYARS IN 1974 WHEN HIM AND I BUILT AN OLD SIX CYLENDER NOVA AND RACED IT FOR A SEASON. HE LATER DROVE THE #44 FIREBIRD FOR JACK VIERRA AND THE #0 COUPE FOR STEVIE DRAKE AND THE #4 FOR WALT LOCKE. JIMMY ALWAYS DID GET AROUND. HE DROVE EVERYTHING LIKE HE STOLE IT. JIMMY LOST HIS LIFE IN 93 TO A TRAGIC CONSTUCTION ACCIDENT BUT WE NEVER FORGET HIM.
JOHN MOSES

JOHN IS YOUNGER BROTHER TO ROYAL. I BELIVE IT WAS 1993 JOHN WAS THE PRINCE OF THE PINES. HIS LITTLE #75 MODIFIED WAS THE TWIN TO ROYALS AND WANT JUST AS GOOD. JOHN QUIT RACING FOR A WHILE IN THE LATE NINETIES BUT HAS BEEN RUNNING MINI SPRINTERS FOR THE LAST FEW YEARS. NOW HE IS GOING SPRINT CAR RACING WITH HIS SON MATT
EDDIE MOSES

EDDIE RACED AT NORWAY PINES IN THE #07 COUPE FOR MOST OF THE EIGHTIES. HE WON A FEW HEAT RACES AND MADE THE FEATURE MOST EVERY WEEK WHICH WAS A HARD THING TO DO IN THOSE DAYS.EDDIE PLAYED DRUMS IN A BAND AND SPLIT HIS TIME BETWEEN THE TWO.HE LOVED HIS RACING THOUGH AND WAS ALWAYS EXCITED WHEN HE WAS AROUND THE TRACK
BIG BILL MOSES

OF ALL THE DRIVERS IN THE MOSES FAMILY BIG BILL MOSES WAS DEFINATELY THE MOST POPULAR.BILL STARTED RACING IN CLAREMONT IN HIS BROTHER DAVIDS #54 CAR. IT WAS 1970 AND CLAREMONT WAS A COOL PLACE. AFTER HIS BROTHER WAS KILLED BILL STOPPED RACING UNTIL 74. HE RAN A CAMARO #50 AT BRYARS MOTORSPORT PARK. WE TOWED IT ALL THE WAY FROM SANBORNTON WITH A CHAIN.THINGS WERE DIFFERENT BACK THEN.AFTER A SEASON HE QUIT UNTIL 1978.BILL STARTED RACING AT NORWAY PINES WITH THE ONLY COUPE. HE RACED AGAINST STREET CARS. AT THE END OF THE SEASON MORE GUYS WANTED COUPES SO THE MODIFIED CLASS WAS BORN.ALTHOUGH WE WERENT THE FIRST COUPES TO RACE THERE BECAUSE THEY RAN THE LEGION BOWL IN THE SIXTIES. BUT BILL WAS RESPONSABLE FOR THEIR COMEBACK.BILL HAD A LOT OF FANS OVER THE YEARS AT BOTH NORWAY PINES AND CAANAN SPEEDWAY . HE WON MULTIPLE TRACK CHAMPS AT BOTH TRACKS.HE DEFINATELY LIVED AND BREATHED RACING. HE DIED OF CANCER AT THE AGE OF 53 BUT HE GOT TO SEE HIS LITTLE GIRL WIN A FEATURE WHICH MADE HIM VERY PROUD.
SARAH MOSES

SARAH STARTED GOING TO THE RACES WHEN SHE WAS ABOUT TWO. SHE ALWAYS WOULD YELL FOR HER DADDY AND GET MAD IF ANYONE WRECKED HIM. SHE RAN A CHEVELLE IN THE DIRT STOCKER CLASS FOR A FEW YEARS. SHE RAN THE NUMBER FOUR IN HONOR OF HER UNCLE JIMMY. IT TOOK HER A COUPLE YEARS TO PULL OFF A FEATURE WIN . I REMEMBER IT WELL BECAUSE I WON THE LATE MODEL FEATURE THAT NIGHT AND HER DAD WON THE MODIFIED FEATURE SO IT WAS AN EXCITING NIGHT.SARAH GRADUATED TO THE LATE MODEL CLASS IN THE LATE NIGHTIES AND RAN FOR A FEW YEARS WITH THE GLADIATORS. THE LAST FEW YEARS SHE HAS OPTED TO BE A MOTHER SO RACING LOST OUT. BUT HER HUSBAND SAM IS STILL ACTIVE SO SHE CAN STILL BE FOUND AT THE TRACK SOME NIGHTS
RAY MOSES

RAY WAS DUSTY,S SON TOO. HE STARTED RACING AT NORWAY PINES AROUND 1980 DRIVING FOR OUR PARENTS.HE RAN AN OLD OMEGA THE FIRST SEASON AND GOT BETTER CARS EACH YEAR UNTIL 1985 RAY BOUGHT THE FIRST DIRT LATE MODEL TO RUN AT NORWAY PINES. THE BATMOBILE IT WAS CALLED BUT IT WOULD SCREAM AND IT HANDLED TOO. WITH OTHER BROTHER MIKE AS CREW CHIEF THE 4J TEAM WON A LOT OF RACES. THEY HAD A 66 CORVAIR ON A EVANS CHASSIS THAT FLEW. RAY WON A CHAMPIONSHIP IN THE LATE MODELS AND THE MODIFIEDS WHEN IT WAS THE PINES SPEEDWAY. RAY WAS ALWAYS DOING THING TO HELP THE TRACKS AND KEEP THE KIDS HAPPY.AFTER A 20 YEAR RUN AT IT RAY HAS HUNG UP HIS HELMET TO BECOME A BOYSCOUT LEADER AND DO THINGS WITH KIDS.
LITTLE BILL MOSES

LITTLE BILL MOSES STARTED RACING AT NORWAY PINES THE LAST YEAR IT RAN. WE BUILT HIM A MONTE CARLO AND HE MANAGED TO WIN IN HIS FIRST YEAR.THE NEXT YEAR THE PINES SPEEDWAY TOOK OVER AND BILLY WAS IN A NEW LATE MODEL. HE DID VERY GOOD IN IT AND WON A COUPLE FEATURES THAT YEAR. BILLY RACED ABOUT SIX YEARS AND HIS CARS GOT BETTER AND HE GOT BETTER TOO.BILLY WAS A HARD CHARGER AND I EVEN HAD TO TAKE A SECOND TO HIM ONE NIGHT. NORMAN ROULX ASKED BILLY IF HE COULD CALL HIM BABY BILL BECAUSE THEIR WAS THREE BILL MOSES. HE DIDNT LIKE THAT IDEA TOO MUCH. BILLY STILL RACES WITH MINI SPRINTERS BUT DOSENT RACE WEEKLY ANYMORE. THAT COULD ALL CHANGE THOUGH
BILLY GEETAR MOSES

I STARTED DRIVING IN 1979 DRIVING THE 7X GREMLIN MY DAD RACED THE YEAR BEFORE. BY THE END OF THE SEASON I JOINED BIG BILL AND GOT A COUPE. WE RACED AGAINST CAMAROS AND CHEVELLES. I RACED COUPES UNTIL 88 WHEN MY DAD DUSTY DIED FROM CANCER. I STARTED RACING FOR WARREN EMERY IN 1989 AND I RACED FOR HIM FOR FIFTEEN YEARS. WE RAN THE NUMBER 13 WHICH MY DAD WOULD NOT OF LIKED BECAUSE IT WAS BAD LUCK. IT WORKED OUT GOOD FOR ME I RAN AT THE SPEEDWAY FOR 25 YEARS BEFORE QUITTING IN 03. SINCE I HAVE FOUND PLEASURE IN PLAYING MUSIC BUT I OCCASIONALY LIKE TO GO TO THE TRACK TO WATCH. I HAD A GREAT TIME FOR 25 YEARS AND MADE A LOT OF GREAT FRIENDS AND I WOULDNT CHANGE IT FOR THE WORLD.
THEIR HAVE BEEN A COUPLE SHORT TERM DRIVERS FROM THE MOSES FAMILY. MIKE MOSES DROVE THE #27 STREET STOCK FOR PART OF A SEASON. ALSO JIMMY TYRRELL RAN THE #8 STREET STOCK FOR PART OF A SEASON.ALSO A FEW IN LAWS MOST NOTED BRAD SHANKS WHO HAS RACED FOR YEARS, EDDIE PUFFINBURGER WHO RAN #47 FOR YEARS THE MOSES FAMILY PLAYED A BIG PART IN RACING IN THIS AREA OVER THE YEARS
